What device types can a S-IMSY SIM be used in
S-IMSY SIMs can be used in a wide variety of mobile network devices. Internally all of the devices contain a SIM and a modem enabling connectivity across a mobile network. The mobile network devices come in two forms
Connect a single device such as a laptop or IoT device
Connect multiple devices
Single Device Connectivity
Enabling mobile communication for a single device
Embedded Modem - Some devices come with mobile connectivity built in
USB Dongle Modem - A mobile dongle that plugs into a USB port - e.g. ZTE MF833 often available as a Vodafone branded dongle and Huawei E3372
Modem connected by USB - Similar to a USB Stick Modem but a separate modem that is connected via a USB cable - e.g. Teltonika TRM250
Modem connected by Ethernet - A modem that is connected via Ethernet cable e.g. TELTONIKA TRB140-UK
Mini-PCI express modem - A mini PCI express device that has a modem module and SIM slot.
These plug into a mini PCI express slot typically inside of a device but there are also other device types such as USB dongles that can take a mini PCI express board
A board with ability to connect external antennas helps in areas of weak mobile signal. Some boards come with both SIM slot and modem ule others are just a board with SIM slot that require a modem module to be plugged in, e.g. SIMCom SIM7070G (note: there is also a version with no sim card slot)
Hats - A card with mobile module and SIM slot that is built for use with a specific device such a raspberry Pi, e.g. 4G HAT for Raspberry Pi
Multi Device Connectivity
Enable mobile communication for multiple devices at a location
Router
Typically installed at a site or in a vehicle. It enables multiple devices at the site or around the vehicle to communicate either using WiFi or wired connections, e.g. Cradlepoint R1900
MiFi
Used when moving around, provides a mobile hotspot enabling devices to connect using WiFi - e.g. TP-LinkM7000
Travel Router
Similar to a MiFi but enables devices to connect by multiple means - typically WiFi and Etherne. May provide multiple means to connect to the internet - typically via mobile network but often can bridge through another WiFi network or ethernet - e.g. TP-Link TL-MR3020
